Description

These gorgeous mid-weight Turkish towels are made from a linen/raw-cotton blend and handwoven on traditional 100-year old shuttle looms. Sustainably made in small batches, this towel remains structured while becoming softer and more absorbent with every wash.

We believe in buying less and using more, with our Turkish towels being the greatest representation of this sustainability practice. Our Turkish towels are not only designed to be a functional bath/poolside towel, but are also a perfect breastfeeding cover, sarong over swimwear, tablecloth, light blanket and/or shawl.

Our Handwoven towels are ethically made and hypoallergenic, made of all natural fibers and 35% more economical to wash and dry than your standard towel.

The companion to our handwoven ‘Gelin’ towel, the Damat is distinguished by its incredibly soft feel to the touch, silky drape and classic herringbone-esque grey colorway with indigo pin-striping. A truly luxurious Turkish towel.

Odd bird convert

With this towel I am a complete Turkish towel convert. It was recommended in my mom group and did not disappoint. This is my first Turkish towel and I was very worried it wouldn't be absorbant or soft enough for me. I'm also big bodied (5'7", 2xl) and historically have always had trouble fitting into towels. This towel is the perfect luxurious size for me. I love drying off first and then tying it around my neck as a dress and wearing it while I get ready. No more struggling to keep the towel on. It's so soft I could live in it and I'm shocked at how absorbant it is. Honestly I was worried that would be an issue. I'm never going back to regular towels. My whole family loves them and my partner too wears around the house as a sarong after a shower. Cannot rave enough about these towels. They are super expensive, but imo worth it.

Beautiful but Not Absorbent

These towels are beautiful and soft; however, the absorbency is significantly less than a standard towel, which is frustrating. As a note, I did follow the instructions and pre-soaked them, etc.

Hi Caitlin,

We’re sorry that you have been experiencing lack of absorbency with your Oddbird towels!

All of our textiles are woven from high quality unprocessed cottons and linens and therefore require a small period of ‘breaking in’ to reveal their truest nature.
We opt to use these unprocessed fibers, as they increase the lifespan of the textile and ensure that the towel can and will serve you well for decades. This ‘breaking in’ process requires a nice soak (for optimal results, include a natural fabric softener) in cold water for 4-6 hours, followed by a wash and dry cycle. This soaking process allows for the threads to fully hydrate and plump and in turn, increases the absorbency of the towel. Usually this ‘breaking in’ process will take about 4-5 washes until it releases its consistent texture and hand.

Even though drier usage sometimes results in a little but of shrinkage, it also helps to speed up the softening process while also working to eliminate shedding much faster and stripping the fibers down so they are naturally bare and thirsty. Once the initial ‘breaking in’ is complete, the towels will get better and better with time and use and will continually increase in both softness and absorbency.

Please let us know if this lack of absorbency persists longer than 5 wash and dry cycles and we will replace your pieces with a different item from the collection that would better suit your needs, while giving your towels new life as a scrunchie!

Hopefully, this was helpful! We look forward to hearing from you and finding the perfect solution xx

Handmade Gorgeous Very Soft Fast-Drying

I truly Love these gorgeous, handmade towels. They are so soft & lovely against the skin. They dry very fast too, which is a huge plus for us (hairy spouse & a bathroom with no windows, hehe). Please Make Time to read the instructions before using, or you'll suffer shedding pieces of towel Everywhere---all over your skin & bathroom. Don't be like me. You definitely have to soak these towels for 6 hours before washing them. The more you soak them, then wash them (repeat), the less shedding you & your bathroom will experience. We are so very grateful & happy to own & enjoy these towels.
